What a little gem of a fishing water this is, went for a scout around and met a old fella fishing it. £1 a day for OAP’s he tell me, excellent this is how fishing should be when you retire!

Hindley Square Lodge is access from Hemfield Road, but make sure you head there from the Hall Lane end, near Hindley Railway Station (see photo), as from the far end its inpassable and too far to walk. You can drive down Hemfield Road, which is more a gravel path/ lane and park about 200 feet from the lake so its nice easy access.

The old fella tells me he’s catching Crucian Carp, and I watch him catch a few fishing literally at the end of his rod, so no need to a long cast here. Its only a small pond, and i’m told it can get busy at weekends, but today there is only one person fishing I will certainly be going back to fish here soon, love Crucian Carp.

Nearby is Hindley Deep Pit see details here Deep Pit another smashing little water, also on the WDAA ticket and day ticket.

Fishing Methods: What fishing tactics worked for us? – following local advice from the local fishermen who fish here on a regular basis we float fished, light floats to 18’s hooks just a rod / rod and a half length out. Fishing maggots brought most bites with Crucian Carp, Roach & Perch, fishing luncheon meat or corn meant less bites but bigger fish with one crucian round the 3lb mark and bigger fish hooked and lost. Theres nothing more distinctive that when you get that thud thud of a Crucian Carp shaking its head when you hook it. We fished 5 – 8pm caught plenty and had the pond to ourselves on a lovely summer evening. Amazing few hours.
